History
This is the story of a particular branch of the McCarthy family in Canada. In a nutshell, it tells of the descendants of Daniel McCarthy, 1788 -1862 and Abigail Barry, 1808 -1882 who emigrated from Ireland and founded the McCarthy farm east of Keene, south-east of Peterborough, Ontario. They bequeathed the farm to their sons, Owen and John. In 1867 John sold his share to his brother Owen and moved to the U.S., as did most of his siblings. Read the story of Daniel and Abigail
Owen McCarthy, 1838 -1886, and Isabel Daly, 1843 -1896 are the next generation in this story. Owen was killed by a train near Peterborough in 1886, leaving the farm to his sons, Daniel, aged 14, and Vince, my grandfather, who was only four years old. Daniel himself was killed in 1919 when horses bolted and he was thrown off a rake. Read the story of Owen and Isabel
