Gerard, 1959 (son of Margaret Nelson Cowie Dolan)
Gerard grew up playing hockey, lacrosse and baseball. He excelled in hockey and played with the OHA Peterborough Petes. He received a hockey scholarship from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. where he studied Business Administration, graduating in 1983. Gerard also played senior lacrosse with his hometown Peterborough Lakers when they won the Canadian Championship – the Mann Cup in 1984. During the 2000-2001 year, Gerard was assistant coach of the Ottawa Rebels lacrosse team.
He has held various positions with the federal government. He started out with the Department of Indian Affairs in Peterborough, then transferred to Ottawa in 1984 joining a management recruitment program for Indigenous people. Since 1984, he has held positions within the finance areas of Employment and Immigration Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs and Secretary of State. He currently works as a Senior Financial Analyst in Human Resources and Development Canada.
Gerard married Laure Barker, 1959 of Peterborough in May 1982. Laure graduated form Durham College as a Registered Nurse in 1980. She is currently working in the accounting department of a construction company in Ottawa. Gerard and Laure have five children and live in Nepean, Ontario. The children are all active in sports:
