Ellen Jane, 1944 (daughter of Grace and Gordon Nelson)
Ellen Jane has lived in Toronto since 1961 but she still enjoys going to Keene and visiting her brother, Bob and his family along with siblings Marg and Paul in Peterborough. Visiting family members and family get-togethers are very special to her.
Jane began her working career with the Imperial Bank of Canada in downtown Toronto where she worked for three years. Her next position was at Canadian General Electric working at the Dufferin Street head office for three years. Aunt Mary McCarthy had worked at CGE for many years and had assisted Jane with her initial interview. Her next position was as Business Manager at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute for 10 years. She enjoyed working with the students, as well as studying business herself, and was responsible for overseeing the finances of many of the student activities. After leaving Ryerson, she took a year’s sabbatical.
In 1978, Jane joined ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society that provides Insurance and Retirement Benefits to performers and writers in Canada, and throughout the years she has met and worked with many interesting people in the artistic community. In her current position as Manager of Member Services at ACTRA Fraternal, she travels frequently across the country. Since 1998, Jane has been a member of the Board of Directors of PAL Canada. She is currently enrolled with the Canadian Institute of Financial Planners. She enjoys travelling and has visited Europe often.
